Shirin Mavaneh, Resident in Counseling

(she/her/hers)

*Available for Telehealth in Virginia

I specialize in individual and couples counseling and provide therapeutic services for a wide variety of mental health conditions including trauma, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, issues related to gender and identity development, neurodivergence and cross-cultural issues, parenting, marriage, and relationships.

I earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Mason University and a Master’s degree in psychology from the Institute for Psychological Sciences. In addition, I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and also specialize in executive functioning support and coaching for young adults.

I approach therapy from a place of compassion, curiosity, and openness and integrate a wide variety of methods in my work with clients including Emotionally Focused (EFT), Trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Strategies through the lenses of psychodynamic, attachment, systemic, and interpersonal/relational perspectives.

I believe that clients are active participants and decision-makers in their own lives, including in the therapy process. In our therapeutic work together, I will help you arrive at a deep and insightful understanding of your concerns by identifying the underlying dynamics and patterns that shape and impact your day-to-day interactions, behaviors, and relationships. At the same time, through this client-centered approach, I will support you to capitalize on your unique inner strengths and resources and facilitate the development of important skills and strategies that are necessary for the enhancement and continuation of healthy functioning and meaningful, positive outcomes.
